For Immediate Release – Jul. 21st 2008
DARTMOUTH / NEW BEDFORD - PharmaHealth CEO Richard Brisson, R. Ph., Chief Operating Officer, Philip Falzarano R, Ph., and Pharmacy Manager and Director of Procurement, Adam Wilczek, R.Ph. traveled to Las Vegas, Nevada this month for the annual, week long McKesson Healthcare Pharmacy Strategies Convention. The theme was "Connect to the Future" and offered hundreds of participants from around the nation the opportunity to learn of new programs and equipment, attend continuing formal education seminars, and network. Discussing and studying present day and anticipated challenges to the Pharmacy Industry took center stage.
"With the growing medical needs associated with the ’Aging of America,’ the ’Baby Boomer" population is increasingly seeking up-to-date, accurate information, assistance, and advice...not only for their parents, but for themselves. We at PharmaHealth address the diversity of service to families and individuals with a dedication and commitment to deliver the finest, personal care anywhere in the region," said owner, Richard Brisson.
Mr. Falzarano added, "We are in a serious business at a serious time in the history of our society. Some might think a trip like this is leisurely. In fact, we worked early morning into the evening each day to learn more so that we could serve better. We are very focused on our goals of improving the breadth, depth and quality of Pharmacy service here on the SouthCoast, and beyond in New England."
Medication Therapy Management, Adherence Practices, and Diabetes Care were among the many topics reviewed and considered. An emphasis in the education program was upon new strategies for assisting Independent, Neighborhood Pharmacies, like PharmaHealth in the evolving structure of Community Pharmaceutical and Primary Care.
In all there were 40 different course offerings from the eleven hour long "Community Ageing, Assisted Living, and Long Term Care Certificate Program Seminar" to the "Ten Pharmacist Interventions That Will Make a Difference for Patients with Diabetes" training sessions.
"And," reported Pharmacy Manager Wilczek "We also surveyed new and improved medication packaging techniques which led to our decision to purchase state of the art equipment for use in our four local Pharmacies in Dartmouth and New Bedford. It is exciting for us to employ advanced methods that print vital dosing information on a see-through package, making the administration of medicine safer and faster. It is believed, for example, that one in four people are in Long Term Care resulting directly from an individual"s lack of ability to adhere to the correct medication time table at home. We aim to continue to make a difference in the quality of life for our clients and patients in every way possible."
