PharmaPak

Our Long Term Care location on 132 Alden Road, Fairhaven, MA 02719 is now offering a new specialty packaging option to our patients, called PharmaPak. At PharmaHealth, we specialize in providing our patients with a variety of medication packaging options aside from the traditional bottles. We offer packaging options that make taking medications safer, more organized and easier to understand. These options cut down on medication errors and eliminate having to spend time pre-packaging your own medications. Well you know about Medicine-On-Time and Blister Cards, and now we have the PharmaPak!

What is PharmaPak?

PharmaPak is the newest way for us to dispense and pre-package your medications for you. Your medications are dispensed through a computerized order-processing machine, which assures the highest level of accuracy. You can feel even more confident that you are always receiving all the medications you need.

How Are Medications Dispensed With PharmaPak?

The PharmaPak consists of individually sealed packets, which are attached to each other within a long strip. For storage convenience, each strip is contained within a small cardboard box. Each packet contains medications for continuous, consecutive doses. For example, if you take medications 3-times per day, the first packet will contain your morning medications, the second packet your noon medications, followed by your evening medications and then your next morning’s medications and so on. Simply tear off each packet from the strip, as it is time to take those medications.

What Are Your Packaging Options?

PharmaPak comes in two different packaging options:

  • Unit-Dose (one medication in each packet)
  • Multi-Dose (multiple medications in each packet).

There are also several different box sizes to accommodate the individual patient’s needs, as well as the amount of medication being dispensed.

Cycle medications (the ones you take everyday) are dispensed in a 30-day supply. Medications such as Coumadin and antibiotics are dispensed in a shorter, more appropriate supply, such as 1-week at a time.

What Information is Listed On Each Packet?

Each packet is labeled with the following:

  • Patient's Name
  • Date, Day and Time to Take Medication
  • Prescription Number
  • Prescribing Physician's Name
  • List of Medications inside each packet
  • Description of Each Medication (Size & Color)
  • Directions for each Medication

Optional barcoding allows bedside verification, which can help reduce errors associated with improper dosing and/or drug administration.
